Check Out LGC AXIO Proficiency Testing's HYGIENE and AIR Schemes

  • Operates schemes across food, beverage, consumer safety, and water & environment sectors.
  • HYGIENE Scheme: This scheme offers a comprehensive range of test materials and analytes, including total microbial counts and pathogens, as well as yeast and mould.
  • AIR Scheme: Provides an integrated solution for all laboratories undertaking sample analysis in multiple areas of air monitoring.

LGC AXIO Proficiency Testing operates a range of schemes across food, beverage, consumer safety, and water & environment sectors. As part of our water & environment sector, we offer a range of samples from our Hygiene Surface Monitoring (HYGIENE) and our Air and Stacks Emissions (AIR) schemes.

The AXIO HYGIENE Scheme has been developed for laboratories that perform microbial testing of environmental monitoring samples. Environmental monitoring of workplaces such as laboratories, clean rooms, factory production lines and offices helps ensure that these environments are free from harmful microorganisms and that cleaning practices are effective. Samples may take the form of swabs, sponges or contact plates that test the presence of microorganisms on surfaces, whilst filters or settle plates are used to test for microorganisms in air.

The HYGIENE scheme offers a comprehensive range of test materials and analytes, including total microbial counts and pathogens, as well as yeast and mould. New for 2025, we are also introducing PT-HY-15 Detection of Cronobacter in Sponge.

Our AIR was developed 10 years ago in partnership with the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) – and is operated by LGC AXIO Proficiency Testing with support from HSE technical testing and monitoring experts. AIR combines the two organisations’ scientific and production prowess in multiple areas of air monitoring, providing an integrated solution for all laboratories undertaking sample analysis. Participating in AIR also supports a laboratory’s quality system by providing an external and independent assessment of its performance in conducting specific tests or measurements.

At AXIO, we understand the need to keep innovating and improving our samples for our network of participant laboratories. To meet this need, this year we have improved our Anions in Quartz Fiber Filter sample, PT-AR-14, adding Phosphate to our current list of analytes.
