Choosing the Right Swab for Whooping Cough Sampling


Whooping Cough (pertussis) is an infection of the respiratory system caused by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis and is characterized by relentless coughing spells. It increases in prevalence every three to four years with the last peak in 2008. In 2011, cases increased to 819 from 357 the year before, whereas this year from January to October, over 7,700 cases were diagnosed, with over 1600 cases confirmed just in October 2012*.With this increase in mind Technical Service Consultants (TSC) would like to highlight that they offer a specialist range of flexible, thin twisted wire mini tip swabs that are ideally suited for intricate or delicate sampling from awkward to reach areas without too much discomfort compared with standard swabs.
