Regulatory Compliance of Culture Media Based Detection of Salmonella spp.
Most food samples are globally tested for pathogens, such as Salmonella spp. and Listeria monocytogenes, by culture media-based methods. The testing procedures and the culture media are highly regulated, they are described in international reference methods, e.g. ISO, FDA-BAM. Food testing laboratories need to follow the workflow and use the culture media precisely as described in these standards but have often difficulties to get access to regulatory compliance information about the media products. However, this information is important, especially for ISO/IEC 17025 accredited customers, to demonstrate the regulatory compliance in audit or lab inspections.
Our 10-minute presentation focuses on ISO regulations for the detection of the most important pathogen Salmonella spp. in the food chain and describes how the regulatory compliance for the needed culture media can be made transparent for laboratories.
