Bio-Shield DON 5 and Bio-Shield Fumonisin 5: USDA/FGIS Approved
ProGnosis Biotech’s Bio-Shield DON 5 and Bio-Shield Fumonisin 5 have received official approval from the USDA/FGIS (United States Department of Agriculture/Federal Grain Inspection Service) for accurately measuring Deoxynivalenol and Fumonisin levels in various agricultural products, including grains, nuts, cereals, and other commodities.
Following the approval of Bio-Shield Total 5, they are here to offer an accurate five-minute solution for monitoring the levels of Deoxynivalenol (DON) and Fumonisin.
Deoxynivalenol (DON) and Fumonisin are two mycotoxins belonging to the group of trichothecenes that pose a significant threat to agricultural products such as corn, barley, wheat, oats, and many more. These toxins, produced by fungi, specifically by Fusarium species, can contaminate our food and feed supplies, potentially leading to severe health issues in humans and animals.
Some known effects on crops include decreased seed quality and reduced yield, affecting agriculture negatively. Also, exposure to these toxins, either through ingestion of contaminated foods or inhalation of spores, can lead to a range of health effects in animals, including vomiting, feed refusal, and metabolic and neurological issues.
In humans, headaches, nausea, and various types of cancers and immune disorders have been linked to them. Therefore, it is crucial to monitor and control these toxin levels in food and agricultural products.
Bio-Shield DON 5 and Bio-Shield Fumonisin 5 are immunoassay methods, ELISA tests, for detecting Deoxynivalenol and Fumonisin, helping control their presence in consumable goods.
They can quantitatively determine the presence of Deoxynivalenol and Fumonisin in a wide range of difficult matrices, including corn, barley, buckwheat, corn germ, corn starch, corn/soy blend, sweet corn, distillers dried grain with solubles, oats, rapeseed, brown rice, milled rice, rough rice, rye, white rye flour, wheat, white wheat flour, sorghum, and soybean. Using coated with antibodies plates and with the help of known standards (known mycotoxin concentrations) and a standard curve, they can give a quantitative result of mycotoxin concentration of the samples.
With such a short incubation time of 5 minutes, these ELISA kits make life in the lab a lot easier while allowing better time management, increasing the amount of analysis per day, making them ideal for busy labs or industries. These 5-minute tests can produce accurate, precise, and reliable results, as adhering to the legal limits for each toxin is an important factor.
The approval of USDA/FGIS affirms the quality standards Prognosis Biotech commits to as a company and gives high praise to our 5-minute ELISA series. USDA/FGIS has already validated three products. At Prognosis Biotech, we are dedicated to developing safe and effective solutions for the food and feed industry.
