DIATHERIX Labs Offer Same Day Reporting for Acute Sinusitis

DIATHERIX Laboratories is pleased to announce the offering of a new Tem-PCR panel that will provide meaningful information in the diagnosis of acute sinusitis. Common viral and bacterial pathogen targets usually associated with both acute and chronic sinusitis have been included in this panel. Although acute sinusitis is dependent on the clinical presentation to establish a diagnosis, knowledge of potential pathogens that are present in sinus secretions provides a more comprehensive view of how to better manage the patient and direct therapeutic options.Since most cases of rhinosinusitis are viral in origin, having a diagnostic panel that includes the usual infectious agents provides the basis for making a more rational therapeutic decision. However, a small but significant number of patients with viral sinusitis also have a bacterial superinfection that requires antimicrobial treatment1. For this reason, the bacterial pathogens usually associated with bacterial superinfections are also included in the DIATHERIX Rhinosinusitis Panel.
