UN World Food Safety Day 7 June – Stay Safe with Promicol® ATP Bioluminescence

Facts from WHO (World Health Organization):

  • An estimated 600 million people in the world fall ill after eating contaminated food and 420 000 die every year.  Infants, pregnant women, the sick and the elderly are the most vulnerable groups.
  • Diarrhoeal diseases are the most common illness resulting from the consumption of contaminated food. But contaminated food can be the cause of long-term health problems as well.
  • Unsafe food is a threat to human health and economies.

At Promicol® we are fully aware that food safety is a crucial factor to ensure health of consumers. Thus, with Promicol® ATP Bioluminescence Rapid Testing a part of the aforementioned illnesses and deaths can be prevented by providing safe food. Promicol® ATP Bioluminescence Rapid Testing can be applied to a wide variety of foods ranging from dairy to soya products, beverages, infant food, soups and sauces - to name only a few categories. Colour and texture of the food has no influence on the testing procedure.

Promicol® ATP Bioluminescence Rapid Testing is based on ATP – adenosine triphosphate. ATP is the general energy source of all living cells, including microorganisms. The specially designed Promicol® reagents ensure that microbial contamination of food products is accurately detected by converting the microbial ATP to light in a specific reaction chain. All ATP from other sources like dead cells or plant or animal cells (somatic cells) is specifically removed in the process so that finally only microbial ATP is detected.

Products tested with Promicol® ATP Bioluminescence Rapid Testing generally do not require a special sample preparation. The product is pre-incubated in original packages according to the test procedures available for different matrices and directly sampled for analysis. Depending on the food matrix results are available already after approximately 25 - 40 minutes testing pre-incubated samples.

Promicol® ATP Bioluminescence Rapid Testing is available for both small and large scale testing facilities with devices ranging from 20 samples throughput per hour to robotic systems (e.g. 400 samples per hour). Furthermore, Promicol® ATP Bioluminescence Rapid Testing can be applied by producers, packaging facilities or general testing laboratories. The procedures are simple and fast, and Promicol® offers next to reagents and devices also software and outstanding technical support. Additionally, as European company Promicol® is not affected by e.g. US trade and tax policies.

Promicol® is seriously committed to improving food safety. For this reason, Promicol® ATP Bioluminescence Rapid Testing will help you to ensure the supply of safe food by early and fast detection of microbial food-borne hazards. Improve the reliability of your quality control and make it more efficient together with the Promicol® partnership. We at Promicol® believe that only a close relation with our customers can result in a perfect customer solution. To build a long-lasting relationship it is imperative to build trust, exchange expertise and increase innovation. We want to make ATP work for you, together with you.
