Problems often arise in the supply and coordination of the individual components for very specialist culture media.

In the partnership, quality control and testing protocols are agreed upon by both sides and a certificate of analysis is established. If the shared information is proprietary a confidentiality agreement can be signed at the start to protect the clients information. Unique Pre-sample Process
Only Merck offers a pre-sample process to check the performance.

A pre-sample, or a small amount of the complete medium, is prepared, quality controlled against the agreed specification and then shipped to the customer. If the customer approves the sample, the special medium will be produced with raw materials which were reserved at the time the pre-sample was prepared and approved. This procedure has the advantage of being able to correct any possible weakness in performance before the complete medium is produced.

These custom-made media will have a shelf life of 3 to 5 years depending on the ingredients and if it's powder or granulate.

Batch sizes up to 4.500 kg are possible.

A final quality assurance is conducted including all documents customer requested.
