Modular Fermentation Systems for Optimum Control

Two types of programmable fermentation systems are now available from Cleaver Scientific. They both offer a high level of performance and reproducibility and are ideal for growing a wide variety of cell types. These include microbes, yeast and fungi, as well as mammalian, insect and plant cell lines.

Both models are designed for bench-top use, the CSL-FS-S modular, a small scale fermentation system for one vessel of up to 1.5 litres, and the CSL-F1 for four different sizes of fermentation vessel, covering capacities of 3,5,7 or 10 litres, or for dual vessels. Double jacket vessels are available for mammalian cell culture.

Each system includes a built-in, 15 step programmable software package and integrated control panel which enables real-time recording and communication between the fermentation system and the connected PC and allows the setting of various conditions including Cascade and Acid-Start.

The controller can be set to keep the microbes in the various growth phases for maximum yield, accommodating batch, fed batch and continuous fermentation as required. A pH probe enables automatic control of either acid or base input via peristaltic pumps and the DO probe controls the aerator. A validation package is also available as an optional extra.
The smaller, modular CSL-FS system is ideal for smaller scale fermentations providing maximum flexibility and enabling different components to be assembled depending on user requirements. These include tetra peristaltic pumps which are fully and individually controllable.

Many of the accessories can be added as optional extras to the modular CSL-FS system, including pH and DO probes and this ensures an affordable alternative to traditional culture methods.
