Rapid Detection of Bleeding and Clotting Disorders

Image

Thermo Scientific Limited has extended its range of rapid diagnostic tests to include two coagulation tests for use in the diagnosis of bleeding and clotting disorders.

The D-Dimer test (product code: 30852501) and Thrombo-Wellcotest™ (product code: 30852601) detect either primary or secondary activation of the fibrinolytic system. Increased levels of fibrinogen or fibrin degradation products are found in conditions such as thromboembolic disease, myocardial infarction, post-operative vein thrombosis, disseminated intravascular coagulation, glomerulonephritis and certain pregnancy disorders.

D-Dimer detects cross-linked fibrin degradation products in plasma or serum, which is a marker for secondary fibrinolysis. Thrombo-Wellcotest™ detects fibrin or fibrinogen degradation products in serum or urine, greatly elevated levels of which are associated with thrombotic episodes of any kind. Used together, they offer a positive predictive value of almost 100%.

These rapid latex agglutination tests provide qualitative or semi quantitative results within just three minutes, ensuring prompt diagnosis and optimal patient care. Furthermore, since they are extremely quick and simple to perform, they fit into routine laboratory testing with ease – saving on time and laboratory resources. Results are clearly visible and easy to interpret in normal light, without the need for specialised equipment.
