CondaChrome® PEC Agar
Principle: Due to bacterial enzymatic activity, Escherichia coli colonies appear pink, Pseudomonas aeruginosa colonies appear yellow, and Candida albicans colonies appear green.
Automation: No
Approvals: Validation according to ISO Standard 16140 in collaboration with AINIA, an ENAC accredited testing laboratory.
Suitability: Suitable for the simultaneous detection of Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans in cosmetic products.
Capital equipment required: No
CondaChrome® PEC Agar is a selective medium specially formulated for the isolation and detection of Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans.
For cosmetics and other topical products, the detection of skin pathogens such as S.aureus, P. aeruginosa, and C. albicans may be relevant because they can cause skin or eye infection. The detection of other kinds of microorganisms might be of interest since these microorganisms (including indicators of faecal contamination e.g. E. coli) suggest hygienic failure during the manufacturing process.
The medium contains peptone, which provides nitrogen, vitamins, minerals, and amino acids essential for growth. The addition of tryptophan to the medium allows the performance of the Indole test for further E. coli confirmation. The mixture of chromogenic substrates allows the identification of the different species and the bacteriological agar is the solidifying agent.
Key Points:
- High specificity: identification based on specific enzymatic activity of each microorganism
- Quick results: read your results after 24 hours, reduce drastically the time to results
- Easy interpretation: identify different bacteria by its characteristic color
- Time and space saving: detect several bacterial species in the same plate
- Minimum investment: no additional equipment nor special training required
