Chromatic VRE: Screens Direct From Patient Samples in 24 Hours

Chromatic VRE is a specially formulated chromogenic medium designed to detect vancomycin resistant enterococci. VREs are increasingly being identified as major contributors to hospital-acquired infections.

Natural resistance (vanC) occurs in E. gallinarum and E. casseliflavus/E. flavescens, exhibiting minimal vancomycin resistance. However, acquired vancomycin resistance in enterococci (vanA and vanB variants) is predominantly observed in E. faecium and E. faecalis. Rapid identification of vancomycin resistance in E. faecium and E. faecalis is crucial to prevent resistance transmission to more dangerous pathogens like S. aureus (VRSA).

Chromatic VRE incorporates specific antibiotic combinations, including vancomycin, for screening and presumptive identification of VRE - E. faecium and E. faecalis directly from patient samples.
