Launched in January 2021, IDEXX Water Academy is an online platform for laboratory managers, technicians, and other water professionals to enhance their laboratory skills and develop their careers. It contains e-learning modules, tutorials on IDEXX products, cutting-edge ideas for ongoing laboratory and career advancement, as well as access to webinars and videos covering industry-relevant topics and related methodologies.

Registration is simple, free, and open to IDEXX customers, providing users the opportunity to expand their knowledge. To date, there are close to 4,000 active users globally, accessing over 100 courses, videos and recorded webinars.

Courses range from the basic principles and importance of water testing for new industry starters to refresher modules on aspects of specific testing requirements for those already familiar with the necessary regimens. The academy also covers advanced subjects such as guidance on designing standard operating procedures in laboratories, setting up quality systems, and managing suppliers.

Completing each course and achieving a grade of greater than 80% is recognised with a certificate, and in the UK, successful completion is also recognised with professional development points from the UK Water Management Society (www.wmsoc.org.uk). Content ranges from 45-minute self-paced to 5-minute microlearning modules that provide quick insights into specific focus areas.

IDEXX Water testing solutions are approved or accepted by regulatory agencies in over 55 countries, protecting billions of people daily. IDEXX products include Colilert^®-18 (ISO 9308-2) for 18-hour detection of coliforms and E. coli in water, and Pseudalert^® (ISO 16266-2) for 24-hour detection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Legiolert^® detects Legionella pneumophila, the primary causative agent of Legionnaires’ disease, in seven days. In November 2022, the IDEXX Tecta® fully automated water microbiology testing system was introduced.
