New IDEXX RT-qPCR Test to Aid COVID-19 Wastewater-Based Epidemiology Efforts
Testing wastewater is being widely studied and used globally as an indicator of the prevalence of COVID-19 in communities.1 To support these efforts, IDEXX has recently introduced a new reverse transcription real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) test for the detection and quantification of SARS-CoV-2 in untreated wastewater.
With the Water SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR Test, IDEXX lends its expertise in wastewater testing, real-time PCR and reliable supply-chain practices to researchers, public health departments and laboratories worldwide.
The test has been validated to deliver consistent and repeatable results in wastewater samples and includes robust quality control procedures.
The Water SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR Test combines the company’s long history of developing PCR tests and over 20 years in the microbiological testing of wastewater to provide accurate results that have been validated on numerous PCR instruments and geographically diverse samples.2
Feedback from early users of the Water SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR Test indicates that having a ready-to-use kit and a complete protocol that has been validated in wastewater has eliminated routine tasks and accelerated their testing efforts.
Availability of testing components has become a major concern for many researchers, and this test is backed by the same supply chain that has maintained 99.9% availability for all key products, even in the face of the global pandemic.2
The new Water SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR Test is supported by comprehensive IDEXX quality-control procedures and its highly trained technical support staff.
