Introducing PT 114: A New Proficiency Test for the Cosmetic Microbial Challenge

BIPEA announce the launch of their latest proficiency test, PT 114 - the Cosmetic Microbial Challenge test. This program aims to independently assess the ability of a laboratory to perform a Microbial Challenge test in cosmetic formulations.

Scheduled to commence in September 2023, PT 114 will be conducted in a single round. The test matrix will consist of a cosmetic formulation weighing 200g. The analytes for evaluation include well-known microbial strains such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Aspergillus niger, and Candida albicans.

Reproducibility is a key aspect of this proficiency test. To ensure reliable results, the enumeration process will be conducted at three different time points: Day 7 (T7), Day 14 (T14), and Day 28 (T28). The testing methodology adheres to the standards specified in the NF EN ISO 11930 and other relevant protocols.

The assessment will focus on the log reduction achieved for each microorganism at each time point. This evaluation will provide valuable insights into the efficacy of the antimicrobial protection present in the tested cosmetic formulations.

For interested participants, please note that the deadline for registration is August 18th, 2023. Shipment of the samples will take place on September 18th, 2023.
