Health Services Laboratory UK Purchase Two APAS® Independence Instruments
Two APAS® Independence instruments have been purchased by state-of-the-art Health Services Laboratory, Halo Facility, London, UK. These will include both MRSA and Urine analysis modules
designed for high throughput screening.
HSL is a state-of-the-art facility located within the Halo building, part of London’s life sciences hub, “Medcity”. The laboratory is a clinically-led provider of pathology and diagnostic services, with the purpose of delivering innovation and value to healthcare. Set up as a partnership between The Doctors Laboratory (a subsidiary of Sonic Healthcare), Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust and University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, the laboratory combines academic excellence with industry-leading workflow efficiency.
The sale was completed following the laboratory’s clinical evaluations of both the MRSA and Urine analysis modules. The data generated from the MRSA evaluation study has been accepted as a poster presentation for the upcoming meeting of European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ECCMID) being held virtually in July 2021. The poster publication will be one of the 5 accepted publications at the conference showcasing the APAS® technology. These provide an exciting body of clinical evidence that help to grow industry recognition and further validate the demonstrated performance of the APAS® Independence.
From a workflow perspective, the APAS® Independence will perform screening of high-volume Urine and MRSA specimens at HSL as part of their routine clinical practice and will sit alongside the lab’s existing automation solution, the BD Kiestra™ Total Lab Automation (TLA) solution. This is the first installation combining TLA with the APAS® Independence workstation automations approach and is a great demonstration of how both solutions can integrate and provide benefits in the laboratory.
Head of Department, Infection Sciences at HSL, Alan Spratt said:
“We are really excited to be bringing the APAS® Independence into our lab. The performance that has been achieved during the evaluations of both the MRSA and Urine analysis modules exceeded our expectations and will enable us to better manage our culture plate workflow. We see this as cutting-edge technology, consistent with our goal of being a UK leader in clinical microbiology”.
CCS General Manager, Peter Bradley said:
“We are thrilled to complete the sale of two APAS® Independence instruments to the Health Services Laboratory and our first in the UK. Alan and all the team at Health Services Laboratory have been fantastic to work with and I look forward to continuing to support them in the future.”
